How to Create a Romantic Wales Road Trip

How to Create a Romantic Wales Road Trip

We like romance. And we like adventure. The ideal aggregate of these two is what dictates our travels, and we seek them in every experience, even the day to day ones.

While spending about a months in the UK in autumn 2016, we knew we wanted to explore one of the most most areas we hadn’t viewed before. We’ve viewed to take into accounta good deal of Scotland, but we adore mountains.

So when the opportunity came for us to head on a short campervan adventure, we were in an instant ready to head and we knew where we’d travel. It used to be time to devise a Two Drifters’ fashion romantic Wales street trip.

The UK is a highly driveable country. You would per chance do a Scotland street go to and fro in the highlands, or a southwest England coastal adventure. Unlike our home country, the US, that you may well per chance per chance perhaps pass big portions of the United Kingdom in most fine a day’s drive. Back in the states, a 10 hour slog will barely lift you across the state of Texas.

The UK’s size makes it so accessible for a short roadtrip, so we in an instant set to planning for a fun getaway. Our 5 day adventure in October of 2016 became out to be exactly what we hoped: sweet, relaxing, adventurous, and exciting. But we also had about a misadventures along the way…

Read on to how to have the most romantic and extremely most bright UK / Wales street go to and fro possible, and potentially even how to lead clear of some of our silly missteps!

1) Expect the unexpected….

Expect the unexpected….

So much of a street go to and fro is decided being spontaneous and seeing where the wind takes you. After our trip, I’d imply a solid aggregate of spontaneity and planning.

Certain aspects of a camping adventure desire a little more preparation (such as knowing where you are going to live and finding the correct kind directions to get there!!) but on occasion the correct kind formula of go to and fro involve those random moments where you turn out lost but stumble upon an insane view.

That type of result in point of truth epitomizes our romantic UK street trip.

But misadventures gave the look to be the order of the day this October. First, our camera used to be forgotten hours away in a London hostel. Thank God it used to be a friendly hostel with honest guests and awesome staff, or we can also just never have gotten it back. (It used to be the Queen Elizabeth Hostel by the way, ideal for a safe budget hostel in London).

Once we’d driven back toward London, we made up our minds to park the van in Reading and take the teach in to lead clear of riding in London itself.

Oh dear, have you ever tried to park a tall van in a city? Well, it takes more than an hour to do it, a studied avoidance of parking garages and one way roads, and a bright sense of humor!

This used to be a logistical nightmare that left us stressful and exhausted, but ended with some fine parking attendants allowing us permission to park in the Aldi vehicle park for about a extra hours (thank you kind men!)

Camera retrieved, we got on our way. That same evening’s misadventure involved riding up a winding, rocky mountain street which “Amy used to be sure” used to be how to our campsite. NOPE.

It used to be merely the street to the pinnacle of a hill where the street ended, and the wind blew freezing air around us while we figured out how to turn around giant ol’ Esmerelda safely. Shouting instructions over blasts of cold wind at midnight is without a doubt NOT phase of having a romantic UK roadtrip!!

However, with teamwork and patience, we navigated this stressful issue successfully, and soon stumbled on our campsite (where we tumbled into Esmerelda’s waiting hands for a smartly deserved rest).

Handling an incident like that in point of truth reinforces your self assurance (though getting lost in the first place wasn’t much of a confidence-booster), and by fixing the location together, in some way it brought the two of us even closer.

2) Go with your best friend.

Go with your best friend.

The final way to be certain you have a in actuality romantic UK street go to and fro is to make a spread your go to and fro partner wisely: go with your very very most bright friend and the love of your life.

Without one another, our go to and fro would never were the same, and it’s our personalities and choices which in some way created the fashioned ride that we had.

Honestly, you ought to go to and fro together so that that you may well per chance per chance perhaps laugh element by element all of the manner thru those ridiculous misadventures, or hug it out when the occasional stressful moment brings one of you to tears (Amy after a gust of Welsh wind blew our tripod over and smashed it to bits, nearly breaking our camera in the assignment as well).

And of course, traveling as a couple way snuggling below the covers, reading element by side, keeping one any other all of the manner thru rain storms, and sharing a bottle of wine as you recount the day’s events.

It’s those little moments of romance and adventure that make traveling together so, so rate it, and it’s what creates a magical UK street trip—the kind you’ll never forget. We know we won’t.

3) Choose the most beautiful, romantic home on wheels

Choose the most beautiful, romantic home on wheels

You may well per chance per chance perhaps make a spread a vehicle for your Wales street trip, but why would you, while you ought to go to and fro about in a varied campervan?

We fell in love with the campervan same old of living back in Australia, when we lived and traveled in our own “Moon River” for 5 months. A campervan offers you a cozy, portable home, allowing you to have both transportation and accommodation in one vehicle. To us, that’s ideal.

Planning a romantic street go to and fro in the UK requires a varied van though, person that is stuffed with atmosphere and character. We chose the bohemian “Esmerelda,” on hand via Quirky Campers.

Admittedly, it used to be a tricky choice, as Quirky Campers has dozens of fully adorable trucks on hand for hire. Even though we were tempted by one of the most most other choices (like this one with its own wood stove), but Esmerelda in an instant appealed to us.

She’s Moroccan-inspired with a warm, rich interior and touches of Gypsy magic throughout. We knew this used to be our ideal romantic roving bungalow.

4) Pack delicious sustenance

Pack delicious sustenance

The fine thing about a van like Esmerelda (aside from the plushest of bedding to snuggle into) is her onboard kitchen. Our van in Australia used to be lacking this significant amenity and wow did it make a difference.

Esmerelda has a gas stove, working sink, and a small refrigerator. There is also abundant cupboard space nestled within the cabinets and walls, so that you may well per chance per chance perhaps bring along your favorite foods, spices, and more.

This is the entirety you ought to prepare a hearty, healthy dish all of the manner thru your street trip. We dined on rather overall staples like pasta and soup, but there’s space to whip up fancier meals if you’re so inclined. And the van contains thousands cooking implements so you’re all set.

Most serious for your romantic UK street go to and fro is a couple bottles of fine wine, and potentially about a cans of British cider (one of our non-public faves). You can toast to a day of adventure and sit up for a quiet evening for your comfy van.

Did we mention how warm and quiet it be far internal of Esmerelda? Perfect for sweetly ending the day together. And of course, don’t put out of your mind the tea.

5) Select a divine location rife with natural beauty

Select a divine location rife with natural beauty

The 2d element serious for a romantic street go to and fro is a beautiful destination.  A UK street go to and fro is ideal for this—particularly a Scotland or Wales street trip. It is also not easy to make a spread since there are sooo many romantic locations in Europe.

There were so many alternatives for us with Esemerelda, but autumn gave the look of to take into accounta good time to make a spread somewhere chilly and mountainous. We’d never been to Wales, so off we set to chat over with Snowdonia National Park, a place that looked simply gorgeous (and is stumbled on on many a UK bucket list), and it did now no longer disappoint.

From Esmerelda’s home in Devon, we drove 4-5 hours north into Snowdonia. Nathan used to be our driver (as I can now no longer force a manual, nor do I do smartly on the left element of the road) and he drove expertly.

It constantly takes some getting used to when switching to the left side, but Nathan is a champ and I am constantly so impressed with how without issue he picks it up. In the passenger’s seat, I served as navigator, but I couldn’t have done so without the lend a hand of our sat nav.

Be SURE to get the sat nav (aka GPS) while you hire your van, as this would per chance be certain you're making all of the correct kind kind turns when driving—particularly valuable on those oh so fun roundabouts!

6) Find the perfect campsites (or let the wind take you)

Find the perfect campsites (or let the wind take you)

In a campervan, that you may well per chance per chance perhaps opt to live in a vary of places. We ended up spending 4 out of 5 nights at more than about a caravan parks and campsites, so that we had showers, toilets, and even laundry, on hand to us.

One our first night out we free-camped on a farm the use of a guidebook called Brit Stops. (The book comes along with Esmerelda). It used to be a varied ride as we parked up in someone’s field with a grazing horse nearby and nothing but stars overhead. Really pristine, and of course, uber romantic.
